If you are looking for a reliable satellite navigation system, the TomTom Start 2 is a great choice. This GPS device is meant to be fun so you can get it in a number of different colours. The Start 2 can be used as a portable, or mounted to your car with the built in mount.

Unlike the previous model, the TomTom Start 2 features RDS-TMC compatibility by way of a car power adapter that provides FM radio aerial and circuitry so that you can get traffic updates to the unit. There are no live services offered with the Start 2, but as this is an entry level GPS device, this isn’t too surprising.

The original Start model did not come with Advanced Lane guidance, but fortunately this feature is included with the TomTom Start 2. With this feature you will know in advanced what lane you will need to be in to make your turn or junction. This feature is very useful if you are traveling in an unfamiliar area and have no idea what lane you need to be in, especially if the junctions are complicated as they are in many areas.

Another upgrade that you get with the TomTom Start 2 is that it now features text to speech so that the names of streets are spoken out loud when you enter them. Aside from these features, the Start 2 is basically the same as the original Start. It is easy to use and comes with only two icons. One will show you a 2D map, and the other button is used for inputting your destination.

With the TomTom Start 2 you do get a points of interest database, which is searchable by keyword. The points of interest that you can search will be closest to a city that you designate, your current location, or destination. Another feature that you get with the Start 2 includes your home location, as well as a list of favorite destinations that the device keeps track of. Some people prefer not to use these features as it gives out too much information if the device happens to get stolen.

The Help feature will provide you with your exact location so that you can give this to an emergency dispatcher if you need help. The feature will also provide navigation to the nearest hospital, police station, fuel station, etc.

The TomTom Start 2 satellite navigation system is a reliable device that offers some welcomed upgrades, though the price is slightly high for a satnav that is marketed as an entry-level, budget friendly device.
