Three new satnav models that provide a range of new capabilities and include all the features of previous models have been announced by the satellite navigation company TomTom.
Included as standard in all these new models are HD Traffic, which measures the UK’s average road speeds by tracking Vodafone users, fuel prices, safety camera alerts and also TomTom’s IQ Routes technology.
The calculation of frequently used routes is made easier by using the Frequent Destination menu, which is a new feature that tracks the routes you use. Routes can also be chosen based on fuel efficiency instead of distance or speed using the Eco Route option.
Different geographical location will be covered by the three new satnav devices. The GO 550 LIVE provides map coverage for the UK and Ireland, whilst 45 European countries are covered by the GO 750 LIVE and finally the GO 950 LIVE offers full worldwide map support for the US, Canada and 45 countries throughout Europe which also, for the first time, covers Turkey, Malta and Greece. No prices have been provided for any of these models so far, although the release date for the products is currently set for autumn.
It was quite a surprise that TomTom would be able to increase its existing range with so many features already available, although in order to compete with the likes of Econav, which bases its devices on efficient driving, the Eco Routes feature is an excellent feature. What isn’t a surprise is the addition of the Frequent Routes option as many thought that this would be a standard feature anyway.
The need to make such small changes to its product range is, however, the biggest surprise for many as it is already so far ahead of the competition with the TomTom HD Traffic and IQ routes features.
