» Younger drivers rely on sat nav devices to get around

It has been revealed in a recent report that most younger drivers in the UK have become totally reliant on their sat nav devices to get around.

Most older drivers across the UK will know that it is like to have to use an atlas, A-Z, or road map in order to get around in their vehicles, and in some cases older drivers that have sat nav devices still rely partly on the old fashioned way of getting around and finding different places. However, a recent report has shown that the same cannot be said of younger drivers, with many having become totally reliant on their sat nav devices to get around.

According to a recent report the majority of drivers in the UK that are aged twenty five and under now rely totally on their sat nav devices in order to get around. It is thought that nearly sixty percent of younger UK drivers are reliant on these devices to get around whereas older drivers were identified as being far more likely to use road maps and atlases.

The figures were released by Autonational Rescue, and showed that whilst three in ten older drivers first used a road map to check their location of they were unsure of where they were going only one in ten drivers aged under twenty five did this. An official involved with the survey said: “It seems we have a generational sat nav age gap. A downside to sat navs is that they can make some drivers lazy. These days we simply put in the postcode of our destination, jump in the car and go - sometimes not really knowing precisely where we’re heading. And because of this remarkable technology, many drivers may be losing sight of what cities and towns are in the north, south, east or west of the UK.”

Figures from the survey also showed that more than one in ten drivers thought that their sat nav systems took them out of their way, and around four percent of drivers found their sat nav devices to be unreliable.
