A recent study has shown how the trends of drivers in the UK have changed as a result of relying so much on their sat nav device, with some reports claiming that sat navs have resulted in common sense flying out of the window.
Many drivers these days would not dream of driving anywhere without having their sat nav device firmly suctioned to their windscreen, and many industry groups and officials have stated that UK drivers have become completely reliant on their sat nav devices even though many have expressed dissatisfaction with their systems and have ended up getting lost or even getting into a dangerous situation as a result of their sat nav’s directions.
The study found that fifty five percent actually found their sat nav devices extremely distracting whilst they were on the road, yet they still insist on using the sat nav to get around. Around twenty five percent of drivers now do not bother to carry a regular map or atlas with them even if they are driving in an area that is not familiar to them, as they feel that their sat nav will be perfectly adequate to get them to where they want to go.
More bizarrely the study found that around fifty six percent of drivers with sat navs had actually shouted at their sat nav devices whilst driving, and nearly eighty percent of drivers that were polled in the survey admitted that they had engaged in conversations with their sat nav systems, giving rise to speculation that the sat nav device is perfectly capable of stripped normal drivers of their common sense.
The study also found that many people who were found to be driving dangerously for one reason or another have been blaming their sat nav devices, as many believe that if they got themselves into the situation by following the sat nav’s direction they are not responsible for the consequences.
