A leading sat nav manufacturer has now launched a new sat nav designed for lorry drivers to help them avoid the age old problem of coming across low bridges on their driving routes.
One major problem that has dogged lorry drivers for many years is the problems of low bridges that they come across on their driving routes, which can really scupper their schedules and lead to them spending more time than they have to on the road because they then have to start looking for alternative routes to get to their destination.
However, one leading sat nav manufacturer hopes to have solved this problem to some degree after launching a new sat nav device that is designed for lorry drivers and aims to help them to avoid low bridges on their journey, thus potentially saving them a lot of time and unnecessary hassle whilst on the road.
Problems with low bridges and lorries have caused all sorts of problems, ranging from huge traffic hold ups to damage to the bridges. However, Garmin sat nav has now launched a new sat nav that could help to sort out this problem. The nüvi 465TF will also help lorry drivers to avoid narrow lanes and small villages as well as low bridges to further help avoid related problems.
An official from Garmin said: “Sat navs play a vital role in the modern truck driver’s life helping to ensure millions of destinations a year are reached safely and quickly. Most sat navs are designed for cars rather than lorries though. The fact that certain bridges are actually getting a reputation for being hit made us look at how we could provide a better solution to this problem.” He added: “Our mapping supplier Navteq released its first lorry-specific map this year and we’ve been working hard to integrate the information into our first sat nav for lorry drivers. The nüvi 465TF allows lorry drivers to enter their vehicle’s dimensions, weight and load, and the advanced software will route them away from low bridges, narrow lanes or restricted areas.”
