Garmin Nuvi 205T Review
If you are looking for an entry-level satellite navigation system you’ll probably appreciate the simple, no frills design of the Garmin Nuvi 205T. Although this is a basic navigation device, it is reliable and well within the budget of most people.
With the Garmin Nuvi 205T you get a 3.5-inch display and a window mount so it is easy to mount to your windshield, and remove when you want to take it out of your vehicle. The black casing is standard for most budget navigation systems, though with the 205T it feels solid and well built.
When you first turn on the Garmin Nuvi 205T you will get a screen with two icons; if you press one icon it will give you a map, pinpointing your current location, and the second icon lets you choose a destination. In addition, there are two small buttons that lets you control the volume and access more tools. Entering an address is fairly simple, though you won’t get spell assist. This GPS comes with over 6,000 points of interest, which is a very nice extra, considering its budget price.
Viewing the maps that come with the Garmin Nuvi 205T is simple due to the fact that they are colorful and simple to follow. The only problem that you may find with these maps is that they don’t have the same refined look that you might get with some of the more high-end satellite navigation systems.
The information that is displayed on the map screen will include the name of the street that you will turn on next, as well as an estimation of time it will take for you to reach your next turn. Some additional information included on the screen is your current speed, as well as the speed limit of the street you are on. You will also get an estimated time to arrival.
One of the biggest drawbacks to the Garmin Nuvi 205T is that the voice navigation does not pronounce street names. Although this could be a problem for some people, this device does offer some nice features, including being able to switch to pedestrian mode, as well as an emergency feature that will take your current location and find the nearest gas station, hospital or police.
Some of the extras you’ll get with the Garmin Nuvi 205T include live traffic information, a photo viewer, as well as the ability to provide navigation to geo tagged photos. For a budget model, this GPS system is reliable and provides all of the basic function needed for satellite navigation. Because this system does provide you with reliability and a solid build, it gets a four star rating.
